Features and Driver Assist Technology

Basic Ford Safety Features

In the current Ford lineup, you’ll find a vast range of basic safety features that are designed to keep you and your passengers safe. These same features have helped many Ford vehicles earn top safety ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS. They include:

Ford Focus Interior Airbag Positions

Personal Safety System™ – This basic suite of safety features includes driver and front passenger airbags, a driver knee airbag, and front seat-mounted side airbags, as well as a Safety Canopy® System with side-curtain airbags.

Ford Taurus Stability Track

AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™) and Curve Control – This system is able to detect when a vehicle is taking a curve too quickly, at which point it is able to automatically reduce the vehicle’s speed to maintain peak stability.

Ford Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Tire Pressure Monitoring System – With this feature, you will automatically receive a notification when your tires are underinflated.

Ford Safe and Smart™ Features

Driving is easier and safer when you have this full lineup of driver assistance and mitigation features on hand:

Automatic High-Beam Headlamps – This feature is able to detect if there is traffic in your vicinity and automatically switch between regular beams and high beams, providing you with maximum visibility without blinding drivers around you.

Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert (BLIS®) – This advanced sensor system lets you know when there is a vehicle in your blind spot or coming up from behind when you’re backing out of a parking spot or driveway.

Lane-Keeping System – Engage the Lane-Keeping Alert feature, and your vehicle will warn you when you’re drifting out of the center of the lane by sending a vibration to the steering wheel. Engage Lane-Keeping Aid, and the vehicle will actually be able to intervene by delivering a precise amount of torque to individual wheels in order to guide the vehicle back to the center of the lane.

Adaptive Cruise Control – This system allows you to set your cruise control speed, as well as the distance you wish to maintain between your vehicle and the one in front of you. It will automatically accelerate and brake based on this preset distance, and if there’s no vehicle in front of yours, the system will return to the originally programmed speed.

Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support – This feature is able to recognize when a potential forward collision is about to occur, at which point the brakes will prepare by increasing sensitivity and responsiveness when you press them.

Enhanced Active Park Assist – This system makes it easier for you to find and navigate into a difficult parking spot. Parallel Parking is able to locate an appropriately-sized spot, at which point it will assist you with the necessary steering. Park-Out Assist gives you guidelines for steering out of a spot. Reverse Perpendicular Parking helps you find a spot to back into. While attempting to park, the Side Sensing System will give you a warning if your vehicle is too close to an object or vehicle on either side of it, thereby helping prevent a collision.
